2004 Ailao – Malaysian natural storage

This is an interesting opportunity to try a tea made with northern material (Ailao mountain) aged in Malaysia. The liquor is quite thick, and has developed an aged plum taste. The aftertaste is sweet and engaging, and the tea is warm and comfortable to drink. Perhaps not as exciting as its southern counterparts, but an attractive and affordable example of aged puer nevertheless.

Many versions of this cake were pressed by the now-defunct factory that had its start in the late 80s, with variation over the years and sizes. We found this example paired with natural Malaysian storage to be better than other examples.
