About the teapot
We wanted to offer a classic. A teapot that can serve as the starting point for one’s exploration of Yixing, or as an addition to the toolkit for someone who already has a few pieces. In many cases, one’s first teapots end up being shelved in the long run. We did not want it to be the case here. We wanted to make something that will keep being used even as one progresses in their tea journey. The key is the quality of clay. We selected a very good batch of zini clay, and tested it with EDXRF to screen for the presence of additives. We ensured it was fired at relatively high temperature to obtain a teapot with versatile performance. The result is a teapot that will remain a pleasure to use even for more experienced drinkers.

About the clay
Among all types of Yixing clay, zini is perhaps the most prototyipical. After all, the Ming dynasty teapots that made Yixing famous were made of zini. Zini is also one of the most widely used types of Yixing clay, and customers looking for rare clays might sometimes dismiss it. This is an example of how, in some instances, labels like “zini” can be unhelpful. If two teapots are both made of “zini”, it does not mean that they are made of the same clay. There are many different batches and grades of zini, and good quality zini is no easier to find than some of the other clays that are regarded as rarer. We were happy to find a very good batch of zini clay, that was tested with EDXRF and fired at high temperature. The result is a teapot showing the naturally varied texture of good quality zini clay, that is versatile to brew many types of teas.
