Wuyi style aged Taiwan oolong
This oolong was grown in Taiwan in the mid to late 1990s using a varietal from Wuyi (the home of yancha), and processed with medium roast and loose rolling as typical for dongding-style teas from that period. Unlike contemporary dongding, the leaves are not tightly rolled into balls. The tea was stored in excellent dry conditions in Taiwan, leading to near zero sourness. For this reason, the tea never needed a re-roast, and it shows beautifully the expected plummy aged profile. The liquor is smooth and has good thickness. We think this is an excellent introduction to aged taiwanese oolongs and a bargain at the current price.
